Model: Noran Freedom Peltier X-Ray Detector
X-ray detectors used in energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) require some means of cooling the detector to very low temperatures to obtain
the best spectral results. Conventional EDS detectors use liquid nitrogen for this purpose. The FREEDOM detector uses a thermoelectric cooler
instead of a liquid nitrogen dewar to maintain low temperatures. This method has many advantages, including:
• Reduced detector maintenance. In conventional liquid nitrogen detectors, levels
of liquid nitrogen in dewars must be monitored, and dewars must be refilled
• Reduced detector size. The FREEDOM electrically cooled detector takes up
much less space than a conventional detector with a liquid nitrogen dewar.
To use the FREEDOM detector, the VOYAGER must be equipped with:
• A bias pulse processor printed circuit board
• An analog-to-digital converter/multi-channel scaler (ADC/MCS) printed circuit boar
